My Place Cozy Delux

Every student needs one of these.
Every human.
Everyone with a laptop.
Everyone.
Period.
Every single person on the earth needs one of these! I am a total sucker for the impulsive buys or the "AS SEEN ON TV" ads, but for once in my life, I have purchased something from these specific television ads that I would recommend to everyone. Seriously, it's fabulous. I am using it right now.
Yes.
Right this second.
So what is it, you ask?
MY PLACE COZY DELUX!
lap top deskHow awesome does that sound? Okay, so it is a laptop desk for your lap. The cushion is surprisingly irresistibly comfortable and it is unimaginable how much of a different these things make. To start, you obviously use this lap desk thing when you are travelling, sitting on the couch, or pretty much using your laptop when you are not at a desk. It is the perfect level once placed on your legs so your arms and comfortably placed. Not too high and not too low.
The best part? IT HAS A LIGHT AND A CUP HOLDER ANNNNNNND A PEN HOLDER.
How awesome is that? I am just so excited about it. I love it! However, like everything, there are some things I don't like about it. The light seems awfully flimsy and fragile so you definitely have to be careful with it, or so I think. I feel like this thing could break very easily. This desk is best for those super small sized laptops. I know for me, my whole entire lap top covers the surface. Yes, that includes the cup holder... which is the most exciting part of it. I hate having to have my coffee not in arms length when using my laptop on the couch, so I was super excited to have this new desk where my coffee could be conveniently right in front of me. However, if you move your laptop down a bit, you can still use the cup holder. I guess that's ok!
Just kidding!! This is the most comfortable convenience anyone could have for their life. Get one. You're missing out.

Desk Must Have

Warm Vanilla Sugar® Sanitizing Hand Gel - Anti-Bacterial - Bath & Body Works

I am definitely the girl that doesn't wash my hands as often as I should. Of course, I do so after I pee but I know I sure as heck don't do it as often as I should. Especially with living in an apartment building and all the door handles I touch and I often eat with my fingers and... ew can you imagine all the bacteria I put into my body? I just hate how dry your hands can get, but there is one thing I have have learned to do that helps me degerm-ify (yeah you like that made up word?) my hands without me thinking twice about it. Look at me! I feel like a germ  FBI agent. HAHA My apologies! I think all the sugar from this past Christmas weekend has taken over my mind. I'm feeling a little kookie. Yes, another made up word.

Every year at Christmas, my parents give me little hand sanitizers that are perfect for your purse that actually don't dry the heck out of your hands like everything else. They smell delicious and get rid of those germs that we all have way too much of on our hands. Bath and Body have amazing foam sanitizers! They are my absolute favourite!

I like to put these bottles all around my house where I spend a lot of my time, but mostly on my computer desk.   Its like a secret weapon against those germs and our stubborn personalities that don't want to get up and wash our hands. Especially in the winter. Although I put them all over my house, the one on my desk gets used on a daily basis so it is an absolute must have on your desk. Your mind unconsciously makes you grab that bottle and get those germs away! So put some bottles on your desk.

Stuck on Ideas?

Are you bored of your room and totally stuck on ideas as to how to revamp your space? Are you thinking about switching to interior design classes just so you know what and how to use your room space? The latter sounds a little ridiculous, if you ask me. If you want to be an interior designer, then sure, switch your courses to match that career path, but if you are only thinking about doing so, so you can revamp your room... I think you should probably consider different options.

One of my favourite places for everything (seriously) is Youtube. You can find tutorials on hair, make up, crafts and even room decorating. Now, if you're anything like me, you do not have the patience to sit around and watch a long video about how to do this and that and blah blah blah is all you're hearing throughout the whole video. A great option, instead of tutorial videos, is to watch room tours. You get a sneak peak into people's rooms and every room is so so different. You can see new ways to store your stuff, make use of your space or even switch things up with a little Duck tape. Oh yeah, I said it... duck tape.

This recent video from youtuber Chantilliscious shows that she has a very small room, as do most of us. Most of her things are all organized in 2 black book shelves. Genius, right... and it doesn't even look silly. It honestly looks extremely chic and cute. It's like a multi-purpose book shelf, like the one I posted about a few weeks back. Aside from that, she used pink zebra print duck tape for her computer desk, frames and all sorts of other things.

Now, I am boasting about Chantilliscious because she's awesome, but there are a million other ideas that you can see from other youtuber's room tours! What are you waiting for?! Go on and do a search. Type in
"ROOM TOUR" into that amazing little search bar at the top of your Youtube.com page and start looking at all the fabulous ideas!

Mirror A-Maze

Believe it or not, but mirrors are great for a lot more than looking at yourself. Just kidding! Seriously though! Aside from checking out your fabulous booty prior to the club, or making sure your make up is in check before your date shows up, mirrors have some other (more conventional) uses. Still don't believe me? Read on!

Mirror Maze at Wisconsin Dells I'm sure we have established in this blog that our dorm rooms are way too small. I mean, small enough for us to mention it in almost every single blog post thus far. If you have guessed it, yes, I do wish I stayed at home under my parents giant roof where I could spend my time taking online college courses in my giant room, rent free. Actually, no! I'd much rather prefer my own privacy, social life and freedom... but the size of these dorms do suck!

House & Garden - IMG_6456 This is where mirrors come in. Get a bunch, hang them creatively and fashionably, and it can really be a great way to open up the small space that you live in, and make it appear much larger...! Yes, mirrors are magical. Optical illusions, at it's finest.

So you have the image of a fun house mirror maze in your head? Well, rest be assured that my fashion love extends from my clothing to my dorm room so I would never advise you to do something horrendously ugly. Plus, those things are totally scary. As I mentioned, hang them creatively. For example, four square mirrors placed in a cube with a little space in between each can look super chic and the best of all, it will make your room look bigger, brighter, more open and lively.

I know mirrors can be way over our budget, but you can always get cheap ones at a garage sale, or even the dollar store. They may not be glass, but at least they will do the trick!

The Small Table

I was over at my friends dorm room the other day and I noticed a table that he had which inspired this post. Okay, it wasn't the nicest table, but I have seen worse. Plus, it was completely convenient and what I think every single poker-lover student should have, especially if you're living in a dorm room, because we all know those things are dang tiny!

So this itsy bitsy table was big enough for two people when folded down, but large enough for four to five people when extended. Now before you start laughing at me for my "obvious" idea, I'll have you know that I have not seen a table quite like this one before and the way he used it is great!
poker
The table was round, so it folded down in the middle and the straight edge could be placed right up against the wall. Perfect, right? Because it is round, it also allowed for that little bit of extra walking space in the dorm kitchen that is absolutely needed.

Now this is where the table gets good! When fully opened, it can seat four to five people. A normal table, right? Not so normal after all! The table came with a top that can be placed on it when fully opened to have a full poker table! Not such a big deal to me, but an amazing invention for my friend who is a total man's-man who is a jock taking classes on how to become a swat guy who thoroughly enjoys his "boy poker nights!"

If you've ever hung out around a serious boy's poker night, you should understand the importance of having an actual poker table, as opposed to just any regular table.

So that is why this post isn't so stupid after all! Trust me! Their dorm room barely has enough room for this tiny table, so I couldn't imagine them trying to put in another table just for their ridiculous poker nights. Upon further research, I noticed that there are several "tops" you can purchase for tables for all sorts of games!

Perfect Grad Gift

Okay, but hear me out for a second. Why do you need to get a Playbook? Because it's awesome... obviously. On a serious note, I feel like this is the perfect gift for students graduating from high school and heading to college. Hey... if you're a parent that has no idea what your child's game plan is for after graduation, suggest looking into scholarships for high school seniors to help get the ball rolling.

I feel like everyone, student or not, needs to get a Blackberry Playbook. It is exactly like the iPad, just with a different bunch of apps and so much cheaper. I think they are still on sale.... $300 off! Can you imagine? It's only like 200 bucks to get! If you ask me, that's much better than a $900 budget, and if you're a shopaholic like me, or a student... then you're budget definitely isn't allowing an extra $900 to be spent on a new fun gadget.
Then, once you know what's going on and if you (or your kid) is leaving... buy everyone a Playbook. Okay, I know that sounds a little excessive, but they're on sale! I bought everyone one for Christmas... shhh!
Alright, so you may be thinking that having a Playbook is only going to distract you. FALSE! Not only does this amazing little device come with Microsoft Word, Excel... all that jazz already installed on it and ready to be used, it also has voice chat... which inspired this post.
What a free and unique way to keep in touch with your parents, or kid? Sure, you can use Skype.. but obviously that's not as "cool"! Plus, the connection can go wonky on that and it won't happen with a Playbook as long as you and the other person has a good WiFi Connection.
It also has a bunch of cool stuff aside from the games, that can actually be very beneficial to a student, or anyone really. Budgeting stuff, education stuff.... anything and everything you could ever imagine.
I'm just saying... I think it's a perfect gift and I wouldn't want you guys to lose out on this deal!
